Dear all,

I'm currently looking at 2 M35's for sale in the Netherlands. We've had a 2nd look at one today, and we saw some damage (a fairly deep tear) to the floor in the shower (see photo). Is this "threshold" just to keep the water in or does it have a constructional function as well (part of the frame?)?

Secondly, I seem to remember there's a MKI and a MKII version of the Moody 35, but I can't find any information on that so now I'm in doubt
The 2 currently for sale here do have very different cupboards in the salon, but they're both from 1992 so not sure if they're different versions.
Are there actual versions of the M35 or are there just minor differences like the cupboards?

Finally, there are a lot of hairline fractures in the polyester. In corners, around the cleats and at the lockers. Is this a common problem or could it be more serious than just 'cosmetic' (sorry, no pictures that clearly show the fractures).

Thank you very much in advance for taking the time to share your knowledge!

Kind regards,
Martine

Hi Martine,

With the usual caveats about diagnosis by photo, a shower tray contributes nothing to the structural integrity of the boat. If it has a structural purpose, it's to support the individual in the shower so that he / she doesn't fall into the bilge. From what I can see in your photo, that crack is a very simple repair job for a grp specialist.

Moody 35's were all built between 1990 and 1996 - I'm not aware of two different marks, although Moody did change things a bit if they could see a way of doing things better without increasing cost. The other real possibility is that one (or both) boats have been modified by previous owners - these boats are now between 24 and 30 years old.

Cracks in the gel coat on deck may or may not be significant. Any cracks at the aft end of the plinth which the genoa sheet turning block sits on is likely to be something which will need attention at some stage. other "cracks" or crazing will often polish out.

Hope you find the Moody 35 you want!

Peter.

Thank you so much for your reply, Peter! Very much appreciate it :)
