Hi I am looking at buying a moody 35 but it doesn’t have its emergency tiler, are they easy to come by, or has anyone got one spare for sale, or the measurements, so I could try and make one please. Thanks Terry

Terrance, If you look at the steering quadrant, to which the steering cables are attached, you will see that there is a square drive. Emergency steering fits over this. Some early boats like my M41 (1983) had to be steered from below deck. Later Moodys had an extension rod that fitted to this from the deck. Perfectly easy to get one made. I hope that some M35 owners come forward with more details.
More importantly, if the steering cable conduits are red in colour then that indicates that they are quite old and I would recommend changing to the stronger blue coloured conduits. If the conduits fail then you will lose steering regardless of the condition of the cables. The cables will have to be changed at the same time. You will find details about this in the website. https://www.moodyowners.info/resources/m35-steering-cable-guide.388/

I have an emergency tiller on Pilgrim - a 2 piece SS box section with a short T bar at the top. I think it was fabricated by a previous owner. I might be able to get pictures of it at the week end.
The only observation I have is that the back stay is directly above the quadrant so that the emergency tiller rubs against it - if I was to make a new one I would put a 'kink' in it to clear the back stay. I would also put a loop on the end of the arm to take some lines to the sheet winches as the load it quick high.
