Moody 46 Q 1 of 3 - Engine Re-power

Greetings. We are considering placing an offer on a 1998 Moody 46. She has the original engine which looks from records to be regularly maintained including the turbo recently being replaced.

Unfortunately the engine hours are not available nor is the counter on the vessel working so all I have is the “approx 2500 hrs” which might be woefully short considering the cruising she has done in the Med by her first owner.

Has anyone re-powered a Moody 46? How much of the vessel needs to be disassembled to gain the necessary access? The access appears to be rather limited with fuel tank under the companionway and no service hatch in the cockpit like HR’s.

Any experience and insight are greatly appreciated.

Cheers!

If the engine hours meter is part of a volvo rev counter it has probably logged the hours but the display needs to be dried out totally and will then show hours recorded. There are numerous threads re this on MOA and other sites.
